Social media support and dog care at the Hand for Help center
I grew up with dogs from an early age. My first companion was a “street mix” named Bohoušek, with whom I spent all my free time in the countryside. Even back then, we tried out various tricks and commands together, and although he didn’t always have it easy with me as a little “trainer,” he taught me patience, empathy, and deep respect for animals.
A turning point for me came at the end of 2024, when I adopted Peebles from the Hand for Help shelter. Working with him fulfilled me so deeply that I stayed on at the shelter as a volunteer. Under Veronika’s guidance, I gradually gained knowledge in the field of ethology and learned the basics of modern dog training and education.
I then began offering foster care to dogs in need. Four adult dogs and one female dog with nine puppies passed through my care, all of whom we raised together until their adoption. The strongest impression on me was left by a dog named Ronnie—thanks to him, I realized that my path is helping fearful and traumatized dogs who primarily need calm, understanding, and time.
Today, I share my life with two dogs of my own—Peebles, a Central Asian Shepherd mix, and Osma, a mix of a bull-type breed and a shepherd, who comes from a litter of puppies I raised myself. Raising a puppy brought me valuable hands-on experience that I now use in hobby-level obedience training.
I continue my education systematically. I completed a comprehensive program at Dog University, which focused primarily on:
-
ethology and the human–dog relationship,
-
addressing problem behaviors (reactivity, separation anxiety, resource guarding),
-
working with fear, stress, and hyperactivity,
-
unwanted hunting behavior,
-
puppy upbringing and education.
Currently, you can find me at the shelter almost every day. I take part in the daily care of the dogs and also manage our Instagram account. I am preparing for cynology exams, and my long-term goal is to become a professional dog trainer.
I would like to be a support to Veronika in the further development of the shelter, while also helping dog owners find a better path to their four-legged companions through understanding their needs, emotions, and instincts.
