Coordinator of dog adoptions from Romania, active volunteer

I have grown up with dogs my entire life. In our family, they were always a natural part of everyday living—whether it was Rokyna the Cocker Spaniel or Bady the Beagle. From early childhood, I formed a close bond with dogs and have always considered them full members of the family.

The first dog I truly cared for was a female named Buffy—a fluffy mixed-breed with an incredibly kind and affectionate nature. She belonged to my friend, whom I live with, but over the years she became my dog as well. Sadly, after a serious illness, she passed away at the age of fifteen.

We couldn’t imagine life without a dog, so we decided to adopt. We came across the organization Psi bez hranic and a dog named Ace, who was urgently looking for a new home. At the time, he was in a state shelter in Prača, where—due to his submissive nature—he likely wouldn’t have survived for long. The decision was clear.

The beginnings with Ace were not easy—he was afraid of everyday things, couldn’t manage stairs, and during the first weeks he would only relieve himself in the garden. Gradually, however, he adapted to his new life, and today he is a fully adjusted, balanced, and very cuddly dog who reminds us of Buffy in many ways.

After adopting Ace, I felt a strong need to help more. I started in the organization with small tasks—organizing dog meet-ups or advertising dogs for adoption. Over time, I became actively involved in adoptions, especially of dogs from Romania, in cooperation with our rescuer Cristina.

Not long after that, we took in a Samoyed mix named Mia into foster care. She had been found on the streets of Bosnia. What was meant to be temporary care eventually turned into adoption—Mia won over not only us but also Ace, and today they form a perfectly matched duo.

Helping dogs gives my life deep meaning. Thanks to the other members of the organization, I am constantly learning new things about dogs and their training. Under Xénie’s guidance, I have the opportunity to continue my education, including through Dog university courses, which help me further deepen my knowledge and experience.
